Today, on World Humanitarian Day, I want to personally thank the women and men who step up when crises strike—here in the Philippines and around the world.
Humanitarians work quietly, most of the time in very tough conditions,
to save lives and help communities recover.
They do it guided by core values: humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
My message today is also a call to action to:
Stop the attacks on humanitarian workers.
Protect civilians.
And make sure that no one is punished for helping others.
Here in the Philippines, a beautiful but disaster prone country affected by climate change,
I see how local communities, civil society organizations, and government partners lead the way efficiently when a disasters hit.
Together with international partners, they make early response and recovery possible.
We will continue to support them as United Nations Team.
Let’s stand for solidarity, preparedness, and dignity.
And most of all—let’s all find ways to #ActForHumanity.
Thank you.
