PHL Supreme Court chief justice leads inauguration of the Gender and Development Corner at the Supreme Court Library
Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo and European Union Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Luc Véron led the inauguration of the Gender and Development Corner at the Supreme Court Library in Ermita, Manila on 25 November 2022.
The inauguration comes after the turnover of a series of publications on feminist jurisprudence entitled “Feminist Judgments”composed of eight books donated by the United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS) Programme: Governance in Justice (GOJUST) funded by the EU.
The inauguration of the Gender Corner on 25 November marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, launching the 16 days of activism to be concluded on the 10th of December — the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day.
Joining the Chief Justice and Ambassador Véron are (from left) Associate Justice Maria Filomena D. Singh and Associate Justice Henri Jean Paul B. Inting, Co-Chairpersons of the Committee on Gender Responsiveness in the Judiciary (CGRJ); Mr. Mario Ronconi, Head of Unit for South and South-East Asia from the European Commission Directorate-General for International Partnerships; Senior Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen, Chairperson of the SC Committee on Computerization and Library; and Associate Justice Amy C. Lazaro Javier, former Chairperson of the CGRJ and President of the Philippine Judges Association.
Senior Associate Justice Leonen delivered the welcome remarks, while Associate Justice Henri Jean Paul B. Inting gave the closing remarks during the Inauguration and turnover. Associate Justice Maria Filomena D. Singh also presented the UNOPS’ Legal Feminism Study, funded by the EU.
The event was moderated by Atty. Joyce Jazmin G. Dimaisip- Cunanan, Senior Chief Staff Officer, SC Library. Also present were Court Administrator Raul B. Villanueva, Assistant Court Administrator and Public Information Office Chief Brian Keith F. Hosaka, Deputy Clerk of Court and Chief Technology Officer Jed Sherwin G. Uy, UNOPS Senior Project Manager Joy Jakosalem-Balane, and UNOPS Communications Officer Mario Villamor.
