ILO and BARMM provide jobs to informal sector workers in Bangsamoro provinces

COVID-19 has exposed the vulnerabilities of the informal sector and threatened the livelihoods, employment and the well-being of workers. During this pandemic, BARMM unemployment rate shoot up to 29.8%, the highest in the country.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Ministry of Labor and Employment in the Bangsamoro Autnomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) inked a partnership to implement the Community Emergency Employment Programme (CEEP) which aims to provide emergency employment with social protection to 1,750 informal sector workers in Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Cotabato City and 63 barangays in North Cotabato. To ensure the safety and health of workers, 70 handwashing facilities will be established in the work sites, workers will be taught proper hygiene, and COVID-19 responsive OSH protocols will be in place. This undertaking is with funding support from The Government of Japan Embassy of Japan in the Philippines
