IOM provides temporary shelter for Sabah returnees
UN Migration Organization anticipates needs of returnees arriving in Tawi-Tawi from Sabah, Malaysia
In preparation for the arrival in Tawi-Tawi of returnees from Sabah, Malaysia, the UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) delivered 400 sleeping kits to DSWD Region IX and the Ministry of Social Services and Development - BARMM which will be used to provide appropriate temporary shelter solutions.
Three hundred ninety-five returnees arrived in Tawi-Tawi on 3 July. They are among 5,000 Filipinos who have undocumented status in Sabah and were deported by the Malaysian government for want of valid or legal documents. Some had resorted to back door entry, while others are victims of human trafficking.
The IOM was supported by the German Humanitarian Assistance for this effort.
